Support for LearningSession 2010 - 2011 On these pages we hope to give Parents/Carers information regarding:

·        Support for Learning in Kingsland Primary

·        Additional Needs

·        Other agencies we work with

·        Useful websites etc.

There are 2 Part-Time Support for Learning Teachers in Kingsland Primary School:

  • Mrs Lorna O’Donnell – 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
  • Mrs Ny Thomsonanc – 1 day
  •  Support for Learning Teachers will work with every child at some time in the school year whether alongside the Class Teacher, instead of the Class Teacher, with small groups or with individuals. If a child needs a block of direct individual teaching, parents will be contacted.Support for Learning Teachers work very closely with Class Teachers and consult with them at the end of every ‘Planning Block’.  These blocks are in line with the ‘PLP’ blocks.  If during these consultations Class Teachers are concerned about the progress of a child/group of children we will plan together to help.  We would get in touch with Parents if these concerns were ongoing and together we would work out the best way forward.

Additional Needs In session 2005-2006 Parents/Carers were given leaflets explaining the new ‘Additional Needs Bill’ that was passed in November 2005.   We have pamphlets explaining this Act more fully plus leaflets on a range of additional needs.   We are always happy to discuss any concerns you have regarding your child.

Medicals in School Children no longer have routine medicals

in P1.  This term Parents/Carers of P1 Children will get a letter from the School Health Service.  If you have any concerns about your child you can mention them and request a medical check if you wish. Children still get their height and weight checked. The School Nurse no longer routinely checks for ‘Head Lice’ so please keep a look out.  These visitors are very common - please be vigilant.

We all have a part to play and the school regularly gives information leaflets and advice.                                                                                                             Hearing Checks Hearing checks are no longer routinely carried out in school.  If you think your child may have a hearing difficulty please contact us and we can arrange for a hearing check through the School Nurse
