The aim of this section is to give you a little information about the Parent Council, how it came about, who is on the council and what it aims to do.
The Scottish Government recognised that parents have an important role to play in supporting their children's education. That recognition culminated in the Government legislation which set up Parent Councils.
All parents with children at the school are encouraged to become an active participant in the life of the school and to express their views on the school and their children's education in general.
The framework which allows this parental involvement in through the Parent Forum. Every parent with a child at the school is a member of the Parent Forum. The Parent Council is part of the Parent Forum, it acts as a representative of the parents when dealing with the education authority and other bodies.
In addition to parents there are a number of co-opted members who are invited to join the Parent Council. These are people from the local community who have skills which the members feel can assist the Parent Council. There is a very active Social and Leisure Committee at the school, this committee is a sub-group of the Parent Council. The Social and Leisure committee is made up of parents who work tirelessly raising much needed additional funds for the school.
The Parent Council aims to provide you with information to assist you to participate in the life of the school, to encourage you to become involved in your children's education and feel confident that you can air your views or concerns either direct with the staff or through the Parent Council. Hopefully you will have the assurance that your children are receiving the best education that they can.
The Parent Council meet twice per term, a representative of the council attends regular meetings at Scottish Borders council; members are encouraged to participate in training sessions organised by the council. The dates and Agendas of future meetings and the Minutes of previous meetings can be found on this part of the site. The meetings of the Parent Council are public and any member of the Parent Forum is welcome to attend.
